Downtown Caloundra heats up AGAIN this November 21 February 2018

On the back of a successful first year, the Hot 91.1 Ignite Chilli Festival will ‘reignite’ on November 17! The festival introduces the exciting world of chillies, herbs and spices that fuses food, music and people to downtown Caloundra, and there’s certainly a taste for the humble chilli after last year’s success. The Caloundra Chamber of Commerce will again host the event with Hot 91 coming back on board as the naming right sponsor. The Hot 91.1 Ignite Chilli Festival is a great opportunity to taste new foods from around the world whilst enjoying live music, cooking demonstrations and diverse stalls selling everything from chilli seeds to chilli sauces, jewellery and other products associated with chilli. A massive drawcard for the event is the Sunshine Coast Chilli Eating Championships, a highlight of last year’s event. Michael Shadforth, President of the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce describes the event as “hot!” which defines the flavour of the festival. “Food tourism is a big winner in the world and this is a chance for Caloundra to be a part of that trend” he said. “Chilli products are everywhere and this time around we want to really step up the inclusion of Sunshine Coast agribusiness in the mix and showcase to all our festival visitors what’s coming out of our own region. Chilli has a following worldwide and the success of the event last year has given us a ‘taste’ of what’s possible”. Bulcock Street has its own local chilli guru, Vicki Taylor owner of spice emporium and cooking school Red Hot Chilli Pepper. Vicki is a passionate advocate for the festival and see’s the value of bringing unique and exciting vendors together in the heart of Caloundra. “Chilli is gaining momentum worldwide and Aussies are really only starting their own obsessions with chilli whether it be through influences from travel or cooking programs” she said. She’s not the only one in Caloundra with a taste for the spice. “Caloundra has quite a few businesses with spicy names relating to chilli, so it seemed only natural that we would host a chilli festival and turn up the heat in Caloundra”.
